Scope & Content |
Black cape lined in taffeta or silk. Top is brown gauze, bottom is ruffled hem. Ties at the top and across front. Pleated trim on bottom starts halfway down front. May have had a hood. 5 button holes around back of neckline. Back is reverse box pleated, tabs on side of cape, probably for closure. One has interesting safety pin. Accompanying note: "A lovely old black lace shawl that belonged in my first husband's family. Either his mother wore it or his grandmother. I'd rather feel it was worn by his grandmother. Mr. Clarence W. Mansuer was born Januray 11 1887. I believe it was in style about 1850-1860. A gift from Marion Upham (Mansuer) Rogers (?)" |
